Why a concentrate at all
A gallon of pre-mix is mostly water, and water is heavy, expensive to ship and available locally. An 8 oz concentrate that makes a gallon changes the economics completely — and it lets you choose your own water quality rather than inheriting whatever was bottled months ago.
Mix into DI, not distilled
DI water starts lower in conductivity than distilled and carries none of the dissolved solids that give a loop something to deposit. Distilled will work and the listing allows it, but DI is the better base and the difference shows up over a year rather than a week.
Repeatable colour
Because you are diluting a measured concentrate into a measured volume, the colour lands the same every time you mix it. That matters if you are topping up a show build or refilling a loop you want to look identical to how it looked at first fill.
Fill slowly, bleed for 24 hours with the pump running and the system off. Check every fitting twice — a paper towel under each joint tells you more than a pressure gauge.
True is good for about 12 months running in a loop — sooner if you notice temperatures drifting upward with no other obvious cause, which is the practical sign it is time for a change regardless of the calendar. Unopened, it is good for 1 year from purchase. Once mixed, use it within 6 months rather than storing it mixed and unused. Top up with more True mixed to ratio or plain DI water — a little dilution will not hurt performance, though heavy topping off with water will soften the colour over time.
